PURPOSE The Civils and Infrastructure team provide support to our Client's engineering department for civil engineering design, construction and remediation works. As such, they work with the Front-End, Projects and Construction teams to deliver their support and services. The building construction supervisor’s main role is to support and assist the department in its management of small building construction activities, work planning, material management, HSE activities & (customer) communication. The candidate will most likely have had experience in public works.
NATURE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION Principal Accountabilities • Supervise the contractor teams during day to day building construction of small projects. • Ensure safe working practices are employed by the contractor and attend weekly progress meetings and tool-box talks held by the contractor and/or the company. • Ensure compliance with the agreed work programme, and report progress against the plan, compile progress reports and details as required. • Verify all works are in accordance with the company standards. • Agree and approve completion of Scope of Work activities by the contractor and document the same. • Ensure all works are inspected in accordance with the company Inspection requirements for building construction. Verify all Inspection reports are compiled and presented for approval. • Identify all Non-conformance with the agreed standards, procedures and workscope and that these are documented and agreed by the Head of Engineering prior to making site commitments. • Actively contribute to successful hand-over of facilities to customer. • Ensure all Technical Queries or scope changes raised by the contractor are documented and approved by appropriate authority. • Maintain files of all Project related documentation, including reports, memos and drawings to ensure relevant information is available for the Project close-out report and assist head of Engineering of same.
Principal Challenges • Maintain good and pro-active relationships with Customer. • Work within project schedule while at the same time maintaining quality construction work. • Maintain good working relationship with Contractor and represent Client’s interests on the work site.
Qualifications/Knowledge/Experience Required. Education: Minimum HNC or equivalent in civil or building engineering discipline.
Experience Level: Over 3 years experience in public works.
Skills: A good working knowledge of HSE, QA/QC and contract management is much recommended. A high level of safety awareness, interpersonal skills and ability to coordinate multicultural workforces are essential. Fluency in English. French language skills are an advantage
