Where can I get offshore certification?
Answer: Onstream regularly cooperates with Falk Nutec and DHTC. You can find out more about these companies by clicking here>>.
back
Does Onstream have job opportunities for people without an engineering degree or experience?
Answer: Because of the nature of the work available in the offshore sector, we cannot provide job opportunities for people who have neither technical knowledge nor experience. However, there are plenty of opportunities onshore. Click on http://www.onstreamgroup.com/?jobs=1 for information.
back
What kind of technical personnel is Onstream looking for?
Answer: Onstream is interested in people with vocational training at secondary or tertiary level in mechanical, electronic or marine engineering, instrumentation science, process engineering or maritime studies. Our employees are crane operators, plumbers, welders, blasters and sprayers, flange fitters, fire spotters, electrical engineering operators, mechanical operators and integrated operations specialists. If you are currently employed in a technical position we would be happy to hear from you.
back
I am an engineering graduate but have no offshore experience. Could I work for Onstream?
Answer: We are especially interested in graduates in mechanical, electrical, marine and process engineering as well civil engineering and marine studies and can offer these people a range of opportunities. If you have a degree in one of these areas then we would be happy to receive your CV.
back
I have neither an engineering degree or diploma nor offshore experience. Could I work for Onstream?
Answer: In this case, Onstream will not be able to offer you offshore employment. You might find opportunities in other sectors that are more closely related to your knowledge and experience.

What are the most common offshore jobs that Onstream has to offer?
back
What is a production platform?
Answer: A production platform or oil rig is a steel or concrete structure, usually anchored to the sea bed, which is used as a base during the extraction of oil or natural gas. These platforms are commonly referred to as drilling stations, but in fact drilling is seldom carried out from the platform.
back
What is an offshore drilling rig?
Answer: An offshore drilling rig is a platform designed for use in relatively shallow water to serve as a base from which to drill for oil or natural gas. Offshore structures are often erroneously referred to as drilling platforms, but in reality these are usually production platforms.
A drilling rig consists of a drilling tower mounted on a pontoon. The rig sometimes floats (this is usually known as a semi-submersible) or it can have legs which can be lowered to the seabed in order to raise the entire structure by tens of metres. The latter type of construction is known as a self-elevating platform; if cylinders are used to provide the upward movement then it is referred to as a jack-up rig. Drill ships or semi-submersibles are used for drilling in deeper waters. These can be fixed in place with anchors or by using dynamic positioning.
A drilling rig serves as a base from which to carry out exploratory drilling for oil or natural gas. When a drillable amount of oil or gas is located, the rig is replaced by a production platform. If the amount found is fairly small then a buoy or a special ship known as an FPSO can be employed instead to extract the oil.
During the life of the drill hole, when work must be carried out below the level of the production platform then a lever-driven drill rig can be positioned next to the platform. Because the drilling tower is actually located on an extendable platform, or cantilever, it is able to extend over the production platform to reach the drill hole.
back
What’s a semisubmersible?
Answer: A Semi-submersible platform or rig, is a mobile structure used for drilling for oil and natural gas in offshore environments.
Their superstructures are supported by columns sitting on hulls or pontoons which are ballasted below the water surface. They provide excellent stability in rough, deep seas.
Semi-submersible platforms have legs of sufficient buoyancy to cause the structure to float, but of weight sufficient to keep the structure upright. Semi-submersible rigs can be moved from place to place; and can be ballasted up or down by altering the amount of flooding in buoyancy tanks; they are generally anchored by cable anchors during drilling operations, though they can also be kept in place by dynamic positioning. Semi-submersibles can be used in depths from 600 up to 35,000 feet (180 to more than 10,600 m).
back
What’s a FPSO ?
A Floating Production, Storage and Offloading vessel (FPSO; also called a "unit" and a "system") is a type of floating tank system used by the offshore oil and gas industry and designed to take all of the oil or gas produced from a nearby platform (s), process it, and store it until the oil or gas can be offloaded onto waiting tankers, or sent through a pipeline.
A Floating storage and offloading unit is a similar system, but without the possibility to do any processing of the oil or gas.
