Safeway BV is a dynamic offshore family business that deals with technically advanced products. Safeway's product is the safe transfer of people at sea: from a moving ship people on and off a wind turbine pick up sometimes more than 30 meters above water. Safeway's motion compensated gangway is highly regarded in the international offshore wind market. Customers such as Ørsted, Jan de Nul, Van Oord, Boskalis, Seaway7, Shell, Exxon and Heerema choose Safeway for performance and workability.
Safeway has a fleet of 6 motion compensated gangways and wants to grow quickly to 15 that are produced in-house and design. In addition, Safeway also sells and designs custom-made gangways for customers. Safeway BV is part of the Van Aalst Group which has various maritime activities such as (Cement) Bulk handling systems on board ships as well as two Norwegian entities that deal with specialized equipment for offshore fish farms for the salmon industry in particular. In total, there are about 70 people working at the Van Aalst Group.

Job description
In the position of Business Unit Directeur you are responsible for managing and expanding the Business Unit Safeway BV in the Netherlands. You draw up the annual budget for this and provide a multi-year plan. By making good use of the growth opportunities in the global Offshore Wind market, there are excellent opportunities to achieve EBIT growth within the foreseeable future. Responsibilities of the Business Unit Director Safeway include the realization of operational excellence for the fleet of Safeway units, the implementation of automated spares and maintenance software as well as the control of the construction of new Safeway units of existing types (and the new ones to be developedand versions). . Exploiting commercial opportunities and improving productivity and profitability, including by optimizing operations and logistics, are also part of the range of tasks. Furthermore, you should think of:
- Managing and participating in marketing and sales processes with the aim of realizing efficient customer processes
- Achieving operational excellence in Safeway Seagull's fleet
- Managing the team that will build the new Safeway units for external customers and internal fleet building in which electrification and innovations are an important part of Safeway's energy transition
- Supervising operational discussions with the aim of mapping, safeguarding and improving business processes.
Requirements
You have the drive and ambition to realize Safeway's growth ambition. You have demonstrable knowledge and experience in managing technical/ commercial/ operational business, preferably in the offshore (crane) environment. You are a driven director with a strong business acumen, and you also combine your strategic vision with a pragmatic approach for further growth. For this you are in the possession of:
- MSc. in technology mechanical engineering (TU) of vergelijkbaar
- A proven experience with P&L responsibility
- Managerial experience in construction and operations, preferably in a (crane) machine building environment; setting up, developing and managing a team.
- Demonstrable experience in a managerial position in capital intensive equipment in a rental model
- Commercial track record; successes in managing key accounts and strategic customers.
- Knowledge and experience of operational excellence
- Excellent command of the Dutch and English language.
